Many Solicitors and estate agents use one of the large online property sites, e.g. ESPC, GSPC, fish4homes, AssertaHome, etc. These large sites are very useful for househunters looking for properties in a particular area and within a particular price range. They undoubtedly help to sell properties for the agents, so why go to the trouble and expense of having your own site?.

who's properties ?	A drawback can be that there are just too many properties to choose from. An agent wants a potential customer to see what THEY have to offer, not what their competitors are offering, the large sites provide a level playing field for all agents. Your own site shows YOUR properties - and there may be properties there that a general search on a larger site would miss - the 'shop window' effect.
up-to-date ?	Some of the index sites have a set day when the properties are updated - a 1-week timescale is not quick enough for many properties that have a changeable situation
other services ?	Many solicitor & estate agent practices offer additional services; mortgage broker, legal advice, property development - these services are not often advertised on the large sites
who's image ?	Some sites offer a space to display your company logo, most do not. Your own website can display your own company colours, graphics, etc to promote your own brand
who's interested ?	Some of the large websites like to show you that they are working as a go-between contact. With your own site, potential customers contact you directly - you know who they are and can enter into a dialogue straight-away.
